BART MICHIELS
Bio//
Bart Michiels is a Flemish composer based in Antwerp. Writing for voice takes an important place in his music. Besides compositions for choir (Hymn to the Living, 2020, for mixed choir and piano; Unfold, 2019, for mixed choir and ensemble) he writes art songs (Nous Dormirons Ensemble, 2020, for mezzo-soprano, viola and piano; Gravity, 2017, for mezzo-soprano and piano).
He also composes instrumental music: Harmonic Waves, 2017, for piano, Naeroy, 2015, a three-part guitar duo written for members of the Four Aces Guitar Quartet; Funeral March for the Fate of the Earth, an orchestral piece written for the Soundmine international composition meeting.
In 2020, Bart Michiels won the 2nd prize in the Vic Nees composition contest for choir.
A central idea in his compositions is the fusing of elements from classical music and contemporary alternative music. This musical idiom results in a highly personal and intimate soundworld.
